The examiner seemed to like my stuff. He would often say: ''I am very keen on this...'' or ''I am very curious about this one...'' At one point he even gave me a pat on the back saying: ''You are doing good!''
He was an old, short, but cool Indian guy with a thick Indian accent. This was very nice considering I was expecting some dry, evil, fat British bloke with the intention of grinding each of us aspiring artists into the ground and covering us with dirt. Unfortunately the examiner won't be alone in grading us; there are also the moderators who look at our record booklets (which include photos of 12 of our works, and 20 photocopied research workbook pages), from these they can raise or lower our grade. RECORD BOOKLETS?! What the hell? It's a completely ridiculous system. My work looks about 1/5 as good as a photo in some damn booklet. Not to mention I did it somewhat wrong. The idea was to show off your BEST work, and I thought the idea was to show development and variety. I ended up putting shit into that booklet because I wanted some work from the beginning of my IB Art career, some from the middle, some from the end, and some from all the different themes I worked on. It turns out I would have been better off cramming it with my later and better stuff.
And furthermore the work just doesn't look good as a photo. I ran into printing problems, and in the end the prints weren't very impressive...I have no doubt that the examiner will give me a 6 or a 7 (7 is the highest grade) and the moderator will lower it by one. In other words, I may well get a 5, and definitely won't get a 7. Curse the IB mechanism.
The good news is that art schools won't care much about my IB grade. They'll see my portfolio and they can decide for themselves if I'm good enough. That reminds me: Who knows anything about Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London? I'll be applying there and I'd like to hear some views on it.
That's all.

i found your deviantart page on the student room actually. your friend was asking about your application for foundation fine arts at csm.
i think you should definitely apply (if you already haven't and i'm too late)! you have a lot of skill and talent (much more than me). don't worry about your portfolio. mine was very sparse and i had hardly any completed work because my A-level art course at school focuses much more on sketchbook work. they commented on this fact but they still let me in. i'm an international student as well and there were about 7 more on the day of the interview but i don't know who else got in.
well, good luck to you! i'm sure you'll do amazingly. i hope i was of some help

That's much more encouraging than another reply I got in the Student Room. I'll definitely apply, no doubt about that.
And by the way, you're very skilled and talented! Don't give me that modesty
Thanks again, hopefully I'll see you at CSM sometime in the future
